MODEified III

Welcome to the MODEified III information page.
This project began in May of 1997 and began shipping early 1998!

The Story

And so it began again! The extra tracks that I had from M1 and M2 were to be the core for M3. Well, it didn't quite end up working out that way. M3 is one of my favorite editions. I love the logo and the design we came up with! I have great memories of sorting through a load of submissions for this edition which ended up keeping a lot of the 1 and 2 leftovers on the backburners. The new stuff that was coming in was so great, I just had to share the new songs from everyone!

The funniest part of this edition is the fact that we tried so hard to make this one on CD, but eventually had to change our minds because of the costs. CD burners were still new and the media was expensive. The cassette tapes at the time just couldn't be beat for our bargain basement budget.

This is the first edition that I kept a website updated and continually added each posting that was made regarding the progress. Below, you can find all those original posts to Bong and read through the progress! I also made a list and updated it frequently of the songs that I had received. This way the artists could see if/when I had gotten their mailings! I also had a section where everyone could track their orders! Lots of orders in the mail coming in and going out. This was a good way for me to keep track for myself too! Brian, the BONG list owner and maintainer of all that is good, was cool enough to do some mastering work for me on the songs.

I was able to post pictures of fans working on their songs too. Lastly, I was able to use the site to post the art submissions I was getting for the liner. We eventually voted and decided on our collective favorite. This was and is the way that future MODEified editions were done. We created a standard and a way for everyone to have a hand in the production of each subsequent edition. It worked really well and I was very proud of the end result.

My Thanks And Comments from the liner notes..

MODEified 3! After five months in the making...we finally did it! I present you with M3. Firstly, this edition towers the previous in quality due to the abundance of help I received in producing it. This is the first edition where digital entries were accepted(DATs and CDs)...and the turnout was phenomenonal! (A big Thank You to Brian L. Heese...(the man who racks his brain 24/7 keeping bong the homepage http://commline.com...running) for mastering the DATs, Tapes, and CDs for me).

M3 still holds true to the original concept behind all the MODEified tapes...a place to come together, show our diversity, and share our enthusiasm for DM. In this edition you will recognize a few regular submitters....and lots of new ones too! The MODEified wave is growing...and catches people's attention all over the world. People keep telling me, "Thanks for your devotion...and creativity"...but the truth is ...the creativity belongs to the contributors. All the songs, all the artwork, all the ideas.....are yours. I just make sure it all comes together. Bong is more than a DM Newsgroup or a mailing list. It has become a family of sorts, something that has crossed boundries and created friendships all over the world.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy M3. Rest assured..M4 will be just around the corner! Until next time..

Take care and Peace.
Rob Augino
